Centerport is a small hamlet within the Town of Huntington in Suffolk County New York on Long Island’s North Shore. The area was once known as Little Cow Harbor during the 1700’s but changed its name to Centerport in the year 1836. The name Centerport refers to its central location between the eastern and western boundaries of The Town of Huntington. The hamlet is vastly residential and has many waterfront homes. Perhaps the most notable establishment in the area is the Centerport Yacht Club. It has been the social and athletic center of the community since their establishment in 1947. Today, Centerport is made up of 2.3 square miles and has a population of 5,508 as of the 2010 census. Centerport is served by the Harbor Fields School District.
