In 1653 three Oyster Bay men purchased land from the Native American Matinecock Tribe, which today makes up the Town of Huntington. Within this section of land in northwestern Suffolk County sits a hamlet by the same name – Huntington. The hamlet of Huntington has a total area of 7.7 square miles and has approximately 18,000 residents as of the 2010 census. Huntington is 40 miles from downtown Manhattan, and sits directly on a Long Island Rail Road line that provides thousands of commuter’s transportation to Pennsylvania Station daily. Within the hamlet of Huntington lays the unofficial and unincorporated “Huntington Village”. Although technically not a village by law, Huntington Village is the social and economic hub for the entire town. It is made up of 36 square blocks filled with restaurants, nightlife, shopping, historic landmarks, and cultural centers. Even with a bustling town, there are still many neighborhoods ideal for raising a family in Huntington. Children in the area will attend the Huntington Union Free School District.
