OVERVIEW

The only town that extends from the north shore to the south shore in Nassau County is the Town of Oyster Bay. Itwas originally part of Queens County until the western portion of Queens County was combined with New York City in 1898, and Nassau County was formed. The town of Oyster Bay is the easternmost of the 3 Nassau County townships and is directly next to Suffolk County. According to the 2010 census there are about 293,000 residents living here. Some notable people from the Town of Oyster Bay include Theodore Roosevelt, Billy Joel, and John Gotti Jr.

There are many emergency centers and hospitals in the Town of Oyster Bay. Some include St. Josephs Hospital in Bethpage, North Shore University Hospitals in Plainview, Glen Cove, and Syosset, and the Nassau University Medical Center. The Town of Oyster Bay is one of the most suburban environments and its communities are famous for the well-manicured landscaping and quaint shopping areas. It is also the home to a lot of great parks and fun places to take your family! One popular park you will find is Bethpage State Park. This 1,477 acre park is famous for being the home to 5 golf courses. If you are looking for a fun place in the Town of Oyster Bay to bring your kids, right off of Hempstead Turnpike you will find the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery and Aquarium. It operates as a non -profit educational center to educate the visitors about the freshwater ecosystems of New York. Another great place to bring your kids is located right in the heart of Farmingdale! Adventureland is a theme park fun for all ages. One ofits most popular rides is the big ferris wheel which you can see from the highway. The park is open from the middle of March to the end of October.
