The most popular town on Long Island, The Town of Brookhaven, is the only township in Suffolk County that extends from the north shore to the south shore with access points to both the Long Island Sound and the Great South Bay. Home to about 485,000 residents, The Town of Brookhaven is about 530 square miles and is made up of 9 villages and 50 unincorporated hamlets. Some hospitals in the Town of Brookhaven include St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, and Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in Patchogue. Originally named Setauket, Brookhaven is the English translation derived from the Algonquian-speaking Native American tribes, the Setauket and Unkechaug. There are many great spots in the Town of Brookhaven to visit. One of the more popular places is the Pennysaver Amphitheater in Farmingville. It is an outdoor concert venue operated by Long Island Events LLC. It is a 20-acre facility that always provides a good time. If you are looking to take a trip to Connecticut, you can get there using the Port Jefferson Ferry that will bring you to Bridgeport, Connecticut. You can even bring your car on this ferry! Part of the Town of Brookhaven is on Fire Island. Some of these towns are very popular especially in the summer. Some of these include Ocean Bay Park, Fire Island Pines, Davis Park, and Cherry Grove. Cherry Grove is a great place to have a good time. It is known for its large LGBT community and in 2015 was designated as a National Historic Landmark.
