Signature Cares April Food Pantry Donation

All month long our Signature agents are hard at work manning our food pantry, collecting donations, and stocking the shelves. At the end of each month, one of our offices chooses an organization near and dear to their hearts to donate all of the food we’ve collected that month to. This month, our Wantagh office chose to donate to the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition. Our agent, Pat Baron, sent us this beautiful story about her personal experience with BBCC and we’re honored that we could help!

“In my early twenties I lost a very dear family friend, she was like a second mother, to cancer.  It was a vicious battle that was devasting to watch and feel so helpless while she suffered so. About 10 years later I lost another very dear friend at the age of 32 to cancer. Another 10 more years and we were in the battle yet again but with my sister this time. As I watched and tried to help during these battles and always felt fairly helpless, I tried to do whatever I could to bring them comfort but always felt there could be more I could have done.

When my sister was diagnosed, she was referred to the Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition as they were a grassroots organization dedicated to easing the journey of those in the Town of Babylon who were diagnosed with breast or gynecological cancers.  The ladies from the BBCC were an amazing resource for her.  They brought her prepared food, helped with transportation to and from doctors, gave her surgical recovery aids, financial assistance and were very emotionally supportive during her surgery, recovery, reconstruction and treatments.

There were 3 different times within the past 10 years that the BBCC was in need of help and my sister would nudged me to join them.  As they say “third time is a charm”. After leaving property management and a guaranteed salary to come to the Island to give sales a go of it, I still needing some steady source of income and the BBCC was looking again.  So, I joined them and was overwhelmed by the dedication, care and support the staff and the volunteers give to those clients in active treatment to ease their journeys.  The emotional support continues well after the ‘active treatment assistance’ ends.  Some say it takes a village, we say it takes a Coalition.

When I first heard about the Signature Pantry, I had hoped we could help some of the BBCC’s clients. So many of them are underserved and the cancer journey has not only upended their lives health wise but have had catastrophic financial impacts. I was so happy when I was told Signature was going to help our ladies and their families.  Showing up with a bunch of pantry bags and seeing their faces light up makes it feel like Christmas in April.  On behalf of the Coalition, their clients and staff we all sincerely thank Signature for caring and sharing.”
